Top 9 Instagrammable Spots In The Niagara Region

niagara region instagram

Instagram is the largest photo and video sharing platform in the world with over a billion active users on a monthly basis. Over 500 million of those Instagram users are even active on a daily basis, whether it be scrolling, interacting or posting for themselves. Can you believe that over 995 photos are uploaded to Instagram every second of the day?

There are many different types of Instagram accounts ranging from personal to professional. A large number of Instagram accounts, posts and stories are travel-focused and related, whether it be locally or internationally. For a location or destination to be “Instagram-worthy”, it has to spark a type of emotional connection with its viewers and have them thinking “wow, I’d love to go there myself!”.

If you’re living in the Niagara Region or planning to visit us, take a look at our 9 most “Instagrammable” spots that you shouldn’t miss!

1. The Niagara Falls (Niagara Falls)

Niagara Falls may not be the oldest waterfall or even the tallest waterfall in the world but it does hold a record of its own. Niagara Falls is (by far) the most Instagrammed waterfall in the world, with well over 3 million tagged photos.

For anyone who has had the luxury of seeing Niagara Falls in person, this is likely no surprise. There are three beautiful waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls including American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls (Canadian Falls). With over 168,000 cubic metres of water rushing over the falls every minute, it is a truly breathtaking experience to see.

Some of the best places to capture the picturesque view of Niagara Falls include the Observation Tower, Three Sisters Islands, Terrapin Point, Luna Island, Prospect Point, Skylon Tower, or you can even take one of the popular helicopter tours for a more private experience!

2. Balls Falls Conservation Area (Lincoln)

Ball’s Falls Conservation Area is home to beautiful trails with lush landscape and two popular waterfalls called the Upper Ball’s Fall and Lower Ball’s Fall. The upper falls are approximately 10.7m high, while the lower falls are over double the size at 27.4m. You can view these unique, Instagram-worthy waterfalls from either the top or bottom, although the bottom is definitely worth the tougher, rocky terrain.

This conservation area is not only a beautiful sight to see, but it is also full of unique history. There are several historical structures and sites in the area including the original Balls family home, blacksmith shop, flour mill, lime kiln, carriage shed, restored church and more. Here you can experience the natural beauty, learn about the history of the area and capture a stunning Instagram shot for your followers!

3. Queen’s Royal Park (Niagara-on-the-Lake)

It’s no surprise that “The Loveliest Town in Canada” makes a debut on this list. Queen’s Royal Park can be found nestled right on the edge of the town, where Lake Ontario meets the Niagara River. Additionally, you can view directly across the river and see the Historic Old Fort Niagara, which is located on the United States side of the river.

Queen’s Royal Park is a relaxing park where you can partake in leisurely activities, enjoy a picnic, or of course snap some photos! A prominent feature of the park is the Gazebo that overlooks the blue waters of Lake Ontario and the Niagara River. It is such a lovely, picturesque view that it is even a popular wedding venue in the area.

4. Graffiti Alley (St. Catharines)

What was initially an effort to combat the graffiti problem in St. Catharines, turned into one of the most unique and artistic views in the city. Graffiti Alley, also called Art Alley, is a dedicated alley where street artists have the ability to express their creative side without any implications. It can be found along St Paul Street, in the alleyway between Garden Park and James Street.

For visitors and residents alike, Graffiti Alley is a unique place to snap that attention-grabbing Instagram shot. As a result of the ever-changing murals and content, it’s unlikely that many people will have the same experience and photograph as your own.

5. Nickel Beach (Port Colborne)

Nickel Beach can be found on the south side of the Niagara Region, on the shores of Lake Erie. This Port Colborne beach is well known for its shallow waters, white sand, water sports, public amenities, beach parking, and beautiful, easy-access walking trails.

With over 2km of sandy beachfront, there is plenty of opportunities to capture the perfect moment for your Instagram. Whether it be the watery horizon, the white shoreline or the beautiful tree line that surrounds the beach, you’ll be sure to catch your follower’s attention with this beautiful destination. Step your photo game up a notch by visiting at sunset and capturing the experience.

6. Point Abino Light Tower (Fort Erie)

The Point Abino Lighthouse can be found along the shores of Lake Erie, located just outside of the town of Fort Erie. This exceptionally built concrete lighthouse is not only a beautiful sight to see but is also designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. It is the only lighthouse on the Great Lakes that has this unique greek revival, architectural design.

This 87-foot high tower is a uniquely beautiful place to capture the perfect Instagram picture. However, your opportunities to take a snapshot of this beautiful structure are limited. Visitors must book a guided tour which is operated by the Point Abino Lighthouse Preservation Society. These tours have limited dates and are available to a limited number of guests at a time, making it a truly unique and Instagram-worthy spot!

7. White Water Walk (Niagara Falls)

The White Water Walk is a unique, self-guided walking trail that is located just off the Niagara Pkwy, only a few minutes from the famous Niagara Falls. This beautiful trail runs alongside class 6 white water rapids. There is an elevator that brings you 70m down into the Niagara Gorge, where you can stand next to the breath-taking rapids that flow through at a speed of approximately 48km/hour.

While in the gorge, you will have the opportunity to walk a 400m long riverside boardwalk and visit 2 viewing platforms that take you even closer to the rushing waters of the Niagara River. Not only is this an incredible experience but it is also an incredible opportunity to capture the perfect snapshot for your Instagram account.

8. Grimsby on the Lake Path (Grimsby)

The Grimsby on the Lake Path is a short but beautiful walking trail that is located along the shores of Lake Ontario, in Grimsby. Here you can enjoy 1.8km of partially paved waterfront trails that are accessible to everyone including walkers, bikers, joggers and other hobbyists. As you walk the trail you will find condos, townhomes, small beaches and of course the spectacular view of Lake Ontario.

While the entire trail has excellent views and Instagram photo opportunities, there is a particular section of the trail that boasts breathtaking views. Casablanca beach has incredible rocky paths leading out into a small bay and these paths create a perfect focal point against the blue waters. As a bonus, wake up for an early morning stroll and capture the sunrise peeking out from beyond the horizon.

9. NEOB Lavender Boutique (Niagara-on-the-Lake)

Who doesn’t love the smell of lavender? Aside from being one of the most popular scents for people around the world, there is an ever-growing list of health benefits that are associated with lavender and not to mention it is also a beautiful herb!

In Niagara-on-the-Lake, visitors can gain access to a beautiful and unique experience by visiting the Niagara Essential Oils and Blends (NEOB) Lavender Farm. This luscious field is filled with hues of purple, blue and green and is home to picturesque backdrops that can help you capture unique and beautiful, attention-grabbing images. There is even a little patch of sunflowers giving you a whole other opportunity to grab the perfect shot.

In the midst of nature’s masterpiece, you can also take a moment to enjoy icecasino, adding a touch of excitement to your serene retreat in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
